Monthly Meeting Reminder!

Good afternoon,

Please be reminded that there will be a monthly Onslow County Executive Board Meeting held on Tuesday, April 20th at Golden Corral.  The minutes for this meeting will be sent in a separate email prior to the meeting.  There will be a closed door meeting/Election for Board of Election Recommendees for Executive Committee Members at 6:00, come early and have dinner at 5:00 if you are able.  The meeting will be open to the public beginning at 7:00.

A few other Updates and EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. Congratulations to our very own Lee Barrows for being elected as 1st Vice Chair of the North Carolina Congressional 3rd District!!  We are also ECSTATIC to announce that Onslow County now has FOUR additional Members At-Large of the 3rd District!!  Congratulations to:
Bill Lanier, Tom Austin, Lisa Carpenter & Christine Lee-Card!
We know you will represent our county well!

2. The Onslow County Republican Men's Club had their annual Election of Officers.  Congratulations to the new officers: President Roy Herrick, Vice President Will Argenbright, Secretary Steve Reed, Treasurer Ted Howard, and Assistant Treasurer Wayne Yates.

3. NCGOP Convention: I had sent an email out last week stating we were to expect an email within the next 24 hours with our NCGOP State Convention Appeal Forms to be seated as delegates.  I didn't receive mine either, so I kept reaching out. The point of contact had told me I would have an email within 24 hours, but called me back and let me know he needed a little more time to establish the deadline date and was waiting on the actual form to be sent to him.  He still assured me that we WILL be seated as delegates, as long as you fill out the form when we get them distributed to us.  It should be coming within the next couple of days, so PLEASE be on the lookout for it.  If anyone needs help with their form (for example, if you don't have a printer or ability to scan it back), please reach out to us and we will be happy to accommodate you in getting that done.  If you attended the county convention and indicated that you would like to be a delegate and have not yet signed up for state convention in Greenville, make sure you do so as soon as you can.  I know some people are driving up just for the day on Saturday. If anyone is planning on getting a hotel room, they are quickly filling up - so make sure you make your reservations as soon as you can.  Hotel accommodations are also listed on the website for signing up.  Here is the link to the NCGOP Convention: https://convention.nc.gop.

4. We are holding another Precinct Training Class for all who would like to participate in learning about how to organize or get involved in your Precinct on Saturday, May 1st at 9:30 AM at Golden Corral.

5. The West Northwoods Precinct Meeting that was to be held at the Main Public Library tomorrow night (Monday April 19th) HAS MOVED LOCATIONS.  It will be held at Golden Corral instead.  Come for dinner at 6:00 PM if you choose to eat, and the meeting will start at 7:00 PM.

6.  School Board Member Melissa Oakley sent out a very urgent call for the need of donations for the local United Way CHEW Program.  CHEW is a backpack program that provides food for children on the weekends who are in poverty-stricken homes facing food insecurity and those who have families who have faced financial difficulties. Because of the core of the pandemic last year where many were out of work, CHEW has been providing this supplemental nutrition to more children in our public school system. If you would like to help with this, she is asking you to please bring to Tuesday's meeting (2) non-perishable goods that can be used to help keep the stock at the CHEW house.

No Veteran Left Behind Act

  • Read the full Bill here: https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2021/HB%20370
  • House Bill 370 - No Veteran Left Behind Act, was cleared by the House Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committees on Tuesday.
    • The Bill is now heading to the Appropriations Committee.
  • The Bill was designed to improve how local law enforcement and first responders assist and respond to Veterans in crisis.
  • This measure creates a pilot program for several Military and Veteran-heavy counties to enhance training for local law enforcement and first responders in veteran-specific crisis intervention.
    • This includes Brunswick, Craven, Cumberland, Onslow, Union, and Wayne counties.
  • The training will be administered through The Independence Fund Inc., a North Carolina-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Veterans and their families.
  • Majority Leader Bell is joined by Speaker of the House Tim Moore, R-Cleveland; Rep. George Cleveland, R-Onslow; and Rep. Charlie Miller, R-Brunswick, as primary sponsors of the bill.

The Crisis at the Border Continues
  • It’s been 23 days of chaos since Joe Biden named Kamala Harris his “manager” for the border crisis they created.
    • Joe Biden has not visited the border.
    • Harris still hasn’t visited the border and has no plans to.
  • This surge is unprecedented and Biden and Harris are doing nothing to solve this growing problem.
  • Instead of working to stop this crisis, the Biden-Harris Administration has doubled down to appease their far-left base.
    • Biden ordered an unnecessary halt to border wall construction, literally throwing the border wide open.
    • Biden’s budget request seeks to eliminate all funding for the border wall, and would even cancel the use of unspent funds.
  • Congressional Republicans are leading on this issue and taking the crisis seriously.
    • Nearly 70 Republican Members of Congress have visited the border in the past month - including almost 50 just in the past week.
    • Republican policy solutions, including those previously implemented during the Trump Administration, would go a long way in containing the border crisis.
  • Make no mistake, Biden and Harris are to blame for the humanitarian crisis at the border.
  • Each day Biden and Harris fail to act, this crisis only gets worse and drug smugglers and human traffickers continue to come into our country.
Biden Endorsed Moving the All-Star Game
  • Major League Baseball moved the All-Star Game out of Atlanta, following Joe Biden saying he would “strongly support” the move.
    • On March 31, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said he had only had a “preliminary” conversation with the Players Association about the idea of moving this year’s All-Star Game out of Atlanta.
    • That night, Joe Biden said in an ESPN interview he would “strongly support” moving this year’s All-Star Game out of Georgia over its new voting law.
    • Less than 48 hours later, MLB reacted and caved to political pressure, announcing it would move the All-Star Game.
  • Georgia workers and businesses will pay the price of the game’s move, and the Biden Administration has admitted the move was meant to hurt small businesses.
    • Historically, the All-Star Game has generated tens of millions of dollars in economic activity for host cities.
    • Georgia will lose an estimated $100 million in revenue because of the move.
    • Over 8,000 hotel rooms that were contracted for this game will no longer be needed.
    • Moving the MLB game out of Georgia will hurt minority businesses, with nearly 30 percent of businesses in Atlanta being Black-owned.
      • MLB is reported moving the All-Star Game from a city that is (according to the US census) 51% black to Denver, a city that is 10% black.
